Balsa Wood

 Balance

Using only the specified materials: Black & white ink, paper, wood glue & balsa wood. The structure is completely balanced. It is not pinned or glued to the stand. It stayed completely in place on its own, showing that even when something looks unbalanced, it can still remain steady.

 Space

Using curves and interesting lines to make large and small sizes to show small elements making a big impact and vice versa. The dark colors giving a deeper sense of space.

Tape Shoes

When making a pair of shoes out of tape, I quickly learned that I would be a terrible cobbler. That aside, the shoes are strong enough to put on your feet and walk around the room, if you are a size 7 in women's shoes.

On Longing Exercise

"The body is the primary mode of perceiving scale."
This is a picture of my daughter, her best friend, and her best friend's little sister. We took this picture a week before they moved across the country, they have all grown so much since then. This picture makes me miss them being so close to us and being able to spend so much time with them.

"Capacity of objects to serve as traces of authentic experience."

This was from my vacation with my boyfriend. We went to Jamaica and were brought pina coladas and jerk chicken. It was one of the best vacations I've ever been on. This makes me want to go back and sit on that beach again.

"The souvenir reduces the public, the monumental, and the three-dimensional into the miniature, that which can be enveloped by the body."

This was a barf bag that was on a plane on my trip to Newfoundland for my cousin's wedding. It was one of the worst experiences on a plane I've ever had, but this little bag made us laugh and helped us survive the flight. We made the crown.

"To have a souvenir of the exotic is to possess both a specimen and a trophy."

This is of my daughter at the Mexico pavilion at Walt Disney World's Epcot. She loves souvenirs but loves to have fun with the stuff in the gift shops. She will try random things on and take goofy pictures in it. These moments are what make me enjoy getting her little gifts for her. The joy on her face makes it worth it every time.

"The place of origin must remain unavailable in order for desire to be generated."

This was another picture from my vacation with my boyfriend. The tropical waters were my paradise. I would live in those waters if I could. There is nothing more serene than sitting in that warm water and fish swimming all around me.

Touch

"One only needs to watch the body whims of a house cat rubbing and wrapping itself around its owner's leg."

Animals all have different reasons for touch. A cat uses their whiskers and hair help them sense what is around them. Their sense of touch is much more sensitive than ours. Its fascinating to just watch a cat. They could randomly jump and you have no idea why, when it could have easily been something tiny brushing against their fur.

"Penguins must touch to survive-they stand on their parents feet and press close to their warm bellies-and so have developed a real passion for touching and being touched."

I picked penguins because they are very compassionate animals. I love the fact that they have to keep their babies close to them for their survival. Its an instinct that all parents have; holding your child's hand, hugging them, snuggling with them. Its an irreplaceable feeling between a parent and their child. Knowing that their child is safe just by touch.
